Originally built in 1676, the grotto served as a cool retreat during the hot summer months. Its walls were once decorated with shells, crystals and minerals, creating a mystical atmosphere. In the 1990s, the grotto was restored and remodelled by the world-famous artist Niki de Saint Phalle to present it for the EXPO world exhibition.

Today, the grotto impresses with its colourful and sparkling rooms, designed by Niki de Saint Phalle with her unmistakable artistic signature. Let yourself be enchanted by the vibrant colours, imaginative shapes and inspiring atmosphere.
