Royal garden splendour in Herrenhausen, Hanover, with magnificent baroque gardens and palm trees.

Guided tour of the grotto by Niki de Saint Phalle

The grotto in Herrenhausen's Great Garden was originally built in 1676 and served as a cool retreat in the summer months. Its walls were once decorated with shells, crystals and minerals, creating a mystical atmosphere. In the 1990s, the grotto was restored and remodelled by the world-famous artist Niki de Saint Phalle to present it for the EXPO world exhibition. Today, the grotto impresses with its colourful and sparkling rooms, designed by Niki de Saint Phalle with her unmistakable artistic signature. The tour offers an insight into the history of the grotto and the creative vision of the artist.
